Get to know our CEO, Melissa!

Today we will be highlighting our CEO, Melissa Mazzeo! She recently completed her MBA and Master's in Environmental Management from Yale University. We are so grateful to have her as our leader.

  1. I am a huge Taylor Swift fan and have been listening to her new album on repeat since it came out.
  2. Before grad school, I worked in the international development field and lived in Sierra Leone, Uganda, and South Africa for a year in each country.
  3. I love to read and my morning ritual is sitting on the couch with a book, a cup of English Breakfast tea, and my journal. I’ve been doing this almost every day for the past seven years.
  4. My parents instilled a strong work ethic in me and I’ve been working in some form since I was a preteen. Two of my favorite short-term jobs were being a taste tester for Dunkin’ Donuts and a ham salesperson at the Honey Baked Ham Company.
  5. My favorite foods are oysters and soup. I firmly believe that you can eat soup year-round, not just in cold weather.
  6. I’m an extrovert and get energy from being around people. One of my favorite parts of working at the store is talking to customers.
  7. In college, I studied communication and international studies. I originally wanted to be a journalist or work for the UN.
  8. I love animals and one of the most magical experiences of my life was visiting the mountain gorillas in Rwanda.
  9. One of my life goals is to write a book someday.
  10. Resale shopping and secondhand clothes have always been a major part of my life. My mom has owned Merry Go Rounds since I was young, and I grew up wearing clothes from the store (plus hand-me-downs from my cousin). As an adult I’ve continued to be a passionate resale shopper and evangelist. One of my favorite shared hobbies with my mom and sister is going to thrift stores – though I can spend hours on end shopping, so sometimes they’ll just drop me off and pick me up later.
